Serial Monitor

Postby redparchel » Wed Jan 04, 2017 4:09 am

Hello,
I have a few lyt8266's and I can't seem to get my serial monitor to output any Serial.println's, and often when I plug my USB to TTL the lyt8266 resets (and wont boot back up, until power cycled, and console cable removed)

Code: Select all
void setup() {
  Serial.begin(9600);
  Serial.println("serial up");

the "serial up" or any other prints don't show up in the arduino serial monitor, I've tried other baud rates as well with no luck.
any thoughts? it'd be really handy to have this to troubleshoot
thanks

Hello Redparchel,

your post must be approved before you can see it posted here.
We were been closed for winter hoilday so I just approved it.
Regarding your question: you can't use the Arduino serial monitor because it is resetting the ESP8266 using the RTS line.
You can use another terminal software like hyperterminal or teraterm (or coolterm if you have a mac) to check your serial print commands.
Remeber to disable the HW flow control or any RTS and DTR lines states to 1 when opening the com.
